T-Mobile is unusually explicit about what happens after you report a spam text, which makes its support page a good model for the whole routine: forward the message, get a confirmation, and understand that reporting and blocking are two different actions. This guide follows T-Mobile's own instructions as published on its support pages, including the 7726 short code and the call-side tools - Scam ID, Scam Block, and Scam Shield.

Forward the message to 7726

7726 spells SPAM on most phone keypads. T-Mobile asks you to forward the spam message to 7726 without editing it or adding comments, and notes that there is no charge to report and that messages forwarded to 7726 do not count toward your plan. If your messaging app has no forward option, T-Mobile's steps are to long-press the message text, select Copy, create a new message to 7726, paste the text, and send it.

The confirmation reply

T-Mobile replies to your forwarded message with an SMS confirming it received your report. Per T-Mobile, forwarded messages are automatically passed to its Security Center for analysis - a system linked to a global database that tracks potential spam messages - and the information reported may be shared with government agencies that work to combat spam and fraud.

Reporting from the Messages app instead

On Android, most T-Mobile devices come with the Messages app by Google preinstalled. T-Mobile's steps: select and hold the spam conversation, then choose Block, then Report Spam, then OK. On iPhone running iOS 16 or later, T-Mobile describes opening the conversation, choosing Report Junk, then Delete and Report Junk. One caveat T-Mobile states plainly: reporting junk or spam does not prevent the sender from sending messages again - blocking the number is what stops them.

Scam ID, Scam Block, and Scam Shield

On the call side, T-Mobile documents two free network-level tools. Scam ID automatically displays Scam Likely and the calling number on suspected scam calls, plus labels such as Telemarketing or Potential Spam on some calls. Scam Block automatically blocks all calls T-Mobile labels Scam Likely before they reach your phone. Scam Shield lives inside the T-Life app: T-Mobile says its free tier - available to postpaid customers - gives you control over Scam ID, Scam Block, and Caller ID, while a paid Scam Shield Premium tier adds options like blocking whole categories of calls, blocking calls and texts from specific numbers, and reverse number lookup. Prepaid customers can enable Scam Block by dialing #662#.

One limit T-Mobile documents honestly: anonymous calls cannot be blocked, because FCC rules require carriers to let callers withhold their caller ID. You can choose not to answer them, but the network cannot unmask a caller who legitimately hides their number.
